Toby Douglas, R.M.

It is my honor and privilege to be invited into the lives of our clients and share with them one of the most transformative experiences life can offer - pregnancy and the welcoming of a new baby into the world.

Since my teenage years, I have always had an interest in women's health and a more wholistic approach to overall health & wellness...midwifery was a natural progression of that. I was lucky and fortunate enough to undergo a direct entry style of training in Britain, a leader in midwifery education. This allowed me to obtain a wide-range of experiences from community based care and home birth to a more collaborative care in hospital based births, along with all the life experiences that living abroad offers.

In 2001, I moved back to Calgary after completing my education, and began working with Briar Hill Midwives. I have been lucky enough to work in this diverse practice with other midwives of varying life and work experiences. I enjoy most the partnership between a woman, her family and our small team of midwives who work together to offer gentle birth choices and continuity of care.

I underwent additional midwifery training when I was on the receiving end of the wonderful midwifery care our practice offers. My beautiful daughter Cheyenne was born at home, in water, in May of 2006. Although I did return to work for a short time in 2007, our family welcomed a wonderful son, Xavian, who was born at home, in water, in April of 2008. In 2010 we also welcomed another son Kaysen, at home, in water.

It is truly an honor to be a midwife.
